Discord has a highly engaged community of millions of daily active users who use the platform for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does: play video games. The Developer Success team is building the tools for game developers to make that happen by harnessing the power of Discord in their games and in their communities. We believe that gaming is better when playing with your friends and aim to foster better and deeper relationships through that. This is also reflected in how we work! What You’ll Be Doing • Delivering high-quality, high-impact projects that unlock new capabilities for game developers. This could include anything from our APIs, the Discord app, developer portal, realtime infrastructure, or even our C++ SDKs. Whatever it takes to get the important thing done. • Collaborating with the other engineers on your team to write, review, and ship elegant and scalable code. You take pride in the fact that your code will be used by millions and millions of people! • Leading projects through the whole life cycle: from gathering requirements, breaking down milestones into smaller pieces, building, then shipping the thing. • Listening and working with our game developer partners to better understand their needs in order to improve our tools. This could mean hopping into partner meetings with our Solutions Engineers or working with our DevRel team to answer their questions. • Working with product managers, designers, and partner managers to cut through ambiguity and find the way forward. • Maintaining performance and reliability standards for our features. • Using your attention to detail to continually raise the quality bar of the software we write. What you should have: • 5+ years professional experience as a software engineer. • Experience with some parts of our tech stack. This is mainly Python and Typescript/React, but could include Elixir, Rust, or C++. You are comfortable switching across stacks or learning new ones. • Experience building software that leverages large data based applications. Data plays a huge part in the work that we do and how we support our developer partners. • You have a sense for product and design. We don’t operate in silos, and you’ll be collaborating closely with cross-functional peers. You should be able to express opinions and collaborate to make something great. • A holistic approach to problem solving. You believe in solving a problem from first principles rather than simply shipping a solution. You learn from your mistakes and work through obstacles with the rest of the team. • You actively leverage AI coding tools to accelerate your productivity. Bonus Points • Experience working with scale. • Experience with mobile development. • Direct experience leveraging a cloud platform (eg GCP, Amazon, or Azure) to serve as the backend infrastructure for a product. • Bonus bonus points: Experience with game development. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $196,000 to $220,500 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
