The Role We are looking for a Staff Backend Software Engineer in Edinburgh to join the Product Platform team, which builds foundational components and cross-functional capabilities for our ecosystem. In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of critical API services powering our financial data ecosystem while modernizing our architecture to fuel European expansion. Key responsibilities and strategic impact include: • Scaling platform capabilities across diverse clients, regions, and geographies. • Building resilient, multi-region solutions that boost system performance and elevate user experience. • Ensuring architecture complies with European and international financial regulatory standards. • Providing key technical leadership to transform how global clients connect with and leverage financial data. What You’ll Do • Design, develop, and implement robust API services to support our rapidly growing European customer base. • Lead architecture designs and product roadmap creation. • Research and drive the adoption of new technologies and best practices to drive innovation. • Analyse and dive deep into a complex and powerful ecosystem, understanding requirements, determining optimal approaches and driving change. • Mentor, coach, and empower other engineers, contributing to an inclusive and high-performing team culture. • Amplify your technical ability by empowering your peers and contributing to code reviews and technical designs. • Debug and troubleshoot issues across the entire application stack. • Collaborate effectively with other engineers, product managers and stakeholders, in line with our company values outlined below. • Be part of a high-performing, cross-functional team. Who You Are • You have extensive experience in software development, including building backend services in a professional environment. • You have a deep and expert knowledge of software design patterns, API design, and the software development lifecycle. • Proven ability to influence technical direction and make significant contributions to the architecture of complex, distributed systems. • Understanding of REST, service-based architecture, and distributed systems. • A rapid learner with robust analytical and problem-solving abilities. • A curious person, who enjoys digging deep into requirements and handling complexity. • You have a track record of amplifying your impact by mentoring other engineers and collaborating effectively within a team of senior peers. • Experience building services with Java, SQL and AWS.</
