The Difference You Will Make: • As part of the Tax Engineering team at Airbnb, you'll help build an extensible tax platform designed to support Airbnb's global growth and ensure compliance. Your work will focus on improving the accuracy, latency, and reliability of Airbnb's host-facing tax systems, and on leading engineers through significant architectural changes. You'll also have the opportunity to shape the team's technical roadmap and long-term strategy, helping decide not just how we build but what we take on and in what order. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams and product stakeholders across the organization. You'll bring a strong problem-solving mindset and deliver thoughtful solutions to the complex challenges of global taxation. A Typical Day: • Build microservices, APIs to drive platform integrations across web and mobile platforms. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build interfaces and systems that can evolve to meet critical business needs. • Build our platforms--infrastructure, applications and tools, and gain expertise in distributed systems, large compute clusters and petabyte-scale storage infrastructure. • Be part of an impactful team working on scaling distributed applications in a highly-available 24x7 environment, make architectural trade-offs applying design patterns and disciplined execution. Your Expertise: • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent practical experience. • 9+ years industry experience. • Prior real-word experience and demonstrable knowledge in any of Java, Kotlin, Relational Database and distributed systems. • Experience leading teams through technical discussions, mentoring other engineers, and driving engineering excellence across team boundaries. • Proven ability to work closely with partner teams to build alignment on key architectural decisions and trade-offs, guiding the org toward effective and scalable solutions. • Exposure to architectural patterns of high-scale web applications, such as well-designed APIs, data pipelines and efficient algorithms. • Experience or desire to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams with design
