Every one of these solutions starts as physical hardware — robotic workcells that we design, build, and commission in our own labs before they go into production. We are looking for a passionate Senior Mechanical Engineer for Robotic Systems to turn robotics concepts into reliable physical systems. In this role, you will design the mechanical parts of our workcells, build and assemble them in our labs, and make sure they meet the relevant safety standards. You will own our lab infrastructure, tooling, and material, and be the hands-on partner for our robotics, software, and application engineers. The role is based in Munich, Germany. Responsibilities • Design mechanical parts, fixtures, grippers, mounts, and enclosures for the robotic workcells in our labs and in customer projects • Validate workcell and production line concepts in simulation — reachability, collisions, and cycle times — before any hardware is built • Construct, assemble, and commission complete robotic workcells — from the frame and mounting concept to cabling and final integration • Create and maintain CAD models, technical drawings, and bills of materials, and prepare parts for manufacturing via CAM and 3D printing • Build up a library of reusable mechanical modules, standard components, and design templates, and feed lessons learned from existing workcells back into it, so that each new cell is faster to design than the last • Own the organization of our labs, including tools, equipment, material stock, and the procurement of mechanical components • Ensure that our workcells adhere to the relevant machine safety norms and support risk assessments, safeguarding concepts, and technical documentation • Work closely with robotics, software, and application engineers to translate application requirements into robust mechanical solutions • Travel to customer and deployment sites to support the installation, commissioning, and on-site adaptation of workcells (up to 20% of working time) Essential Skills • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience, e.g. a technical apprenticeship with several years of relevant work • Minimum of four years of professional experience in mechanical design, machine building, or industrial automation • Solid CAD skills (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, Creo) for part and assembly design including technical drawings • Experience with robot simulation and offline programming environments (e.g., RoboDK, RobotStudio, Visual Components) • Practical experience with CAM and common manufacturing processes (milling, turning, sheet metal) as well as with 3D printing, including design for manufacturability • Experience with aluminum profile systems, linear axes, fixtures, and standard mechanical components • Experience with robotic hardware (robot arms, grippers, cameras, AGVs, sensors, etc.) • Hands-on mindset — you enjoy building, assembling, and commissioning hardware yourself • Knowledge of machine safety norms and a structured approach to safe workcell design • Structured and independent working style with a strong sense of order in the lab • Fluency in English Beneficial Skills • Knowledge of electrical engineering: wiring, control cabinets, and the integration
