About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role Anthropic is building AI compute at a scale and pace that outruns what off-the-shelf data center equipment was designed for. Much of the power and cooling equipment behind our next campuses — battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid-forming and grid-following inverters, solid-state transformers (SST), E-STATCOM and other power-quality devices, medium-voltage switchgear, UPS, and liquid-cooling systems — is either new to the market, new to the supplier, or being built at a volume the supplier has never shipped before. The NPI Engineer owns the path from "the supplier has a design" to "the equipment is qualified, manufacturable at rate, and running reliably on site." You sit between our electrical and mechanical design teams, our supply chain and quality teams, and the supplier's engineering and factory organizations, and you make sure every new product or major variant clears the gates — EVT, DVT, PVT, FAT, SAT — before it is trusted with production load. This is a hands-on role: you will spend real time on supplier factory floors, in test labs, and at site commissioning. What you'll do • Own the NPI program for each new power or cooling product (BESS, inverters, SST, E-STATCOM, MV switchgear, UPS, CDUs, chillers) from concept selection through ramp, including the gate schedule, exit criteria, and risk register. • Drive early supplier design engagement: translate our site requirements (fault current, grid interconnection, harmonic and ride-through requirements, thermal envelopes, footprint, serviceability) into product requirements and specifications the supplier can build to, and negotiate trade-offs with their engineering teams. • Lead DFM/DFT/DFx reviews with suppliers so designs are manufacturable at the rate we need, testable in the factory, and serviceable in the field. • Plan and run prototype and pilot builds: define EVT/DVT/PVT scope and sample counts, witness builds, own test plans (type testing, HALT/HASS, thermal, EMC, protection coordination, functional and integration tests), and drive root cause and corrective action on every failure. • Qualify the product for deployment: define and execute first-article inspection, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and integrated system testing with the rest of the electrical and cooling chain, and sign off on production readiness. • Hand off to steady state: transfer qualified products, control plans, test procedures, and known-issue lists to the Manufacturing Quality and Supply Chain Delivery teams, and support them through the first production ramps. • Build the reliability picture: run FMEA/DFMEA with suppliers, define reliability targets and burn-in requirements, and feed field failure data back into the next revision. • Coordinate cross-functionally with design engineering, construction, commissioning, utilities/interconnection, safety, and sourcing so NPI schedules are integrated with campus delivery schedules. • Keep suppliers honest: track readiness and risk with clear metrics, escalate early, and hold technical reviews that resolve issues rather than admire them. You may be a good fit if you have • 8+ years of engineering
